The Ability to Relax While Working From Home

When working from home, it is important to have the ability to relax. Without relaxation, tensions and stressors will take over your life. Working from home brings many advantage to the family. Although, as moms when we know there is work to be done – sometimes it is hard to leave it alone.

For example, when you are a mom who works from home – you may find yourself checking your business email 10 times in a day. Make it a rule to check it at certain times of the day. If you work from home four hours each day, then do what you can to stay within the guidelines. Do not allow work “thinking” to continually enter your mind when you are visiting friends, or doing things with the family. It may be necessary to break your habits in this respect – but you can do it.

As a working mom, you must be able to relax and “leave work.” Just as if you were leaving a physical place of work – you need to be able to mentally disconnect from your work during other times of the day. Otherwise, you will find yourself reaching burnout mode when it could have been avoided!

How can you take some times to relax? Here are a few suggestions for you:

  • Leave the house
  • Turn off the house/cell phone
  • Shut the computer down (keeps you from going back to do more work which can be done at another time)
  • Have dinner out with your spouse, or best friend
  • Hire a babysitter for the evening, or trade kid sitting with a neighbor
There are simple ways to relax and take a mental break from work. It is necessary to balance work with down time.
